Things to see and do in Side
Side, located on the stunning Turkish Riviera, provides a mix of ancient culture and modern resort amenities. The main draw for many holidaymakers to this part of Turkey is the coast, and Side has two fantastic beaches to choose from. West Beach is popular with families, thanks to its shallow, sheltered waters. East Beach, on the other hand, is a little more windswept. It’s ideal for watersports, although you’ll find banana boats and other water activities along both stretches of sand. Stretch out your day at the beach by retiring to one of the various beach bars to relax and cool off, or enjoy some cocktails in the evening.
If you fancy seeing a little more of what the Turquoise Coast has to offer, take a boat excursion along the coast, or try some scuba diving to see what lives beneath the waves. Just an hour away by taxi, you’ll find the city of Antalya. Here you can browse the colourful shops, try a traditional Turkish coffee or chill out in a hammam.
Top attractions
Side’s biggest attractions are its historical site. The most impressive of these is its enormous amphitheater, which once welcomed 20,000 spectators, all come to watch the gladiators and the wild animals. The other top sight is the Temple of Apollo, an ancient structure that dates over 2,000 years.
The other must-see attraction in the area is the fantastic Manavgat waterfall, just ten minutes away from town by taxi. The best time to visit is after 8pm, when entry is free and the falls are illuminated. You get right up close to the waterfall, and there is an area for picnics just nearby.

Gul Restaurant, in its enviable location overlooking the harbour, is a sure favourite with the whole family. The menu offers a choice of classic Turkish dishes, pizzas and a special kid’s menu. For a special night out, you won’t go wrong with a table at Conny’s Restaurant. This couple-run eatery serves up some excellent dishes that are sure to be a crowd pleaser.
