What to do in Gastouri

Gastouri more frequently goes by the name Achilleio due to The Acheilleion Palace being about 500 meters away from the village’s entrance. This palace was built in 1890 for Empress Elisabeth of Austria and features magnificent gardens along with the palace’s stunning architecture. For the James Bond fans out there, the For Your Eyes Only movie has shot at the palace.

Also while visiting, there is Kaiser Beach, which is covered in pebbles and stretches about 1 kilometre. At one end of the beach is the Kaiser’s bridge that was built after Kaiser Wilhelm purchased Acheilleion Palace in 1907 in order to connect it and have easier access to the beach. Now only part of the bridge remains which unfortunately no longer connects all the way back to the palace.
