Things to do
Elounda offers everything you could want from a holiday on a Greek island, from tasty tavernas and welcoming pubs to beaches and sights to see. The town itself features a colourful harbour with a friendly main square full of bars. The nightlife is relaxed and you’ll find an array of cocktail bars, cafes and a few nightclubs located around the lake. Or enjoy a traditional night on the town at taverna with ouzo and live music.
The main beach in Elounda is a Blue Flag, 200-metre stretch of golden sand. Other neighbouring beaches worth a visit include the more peaceful Driros Beach, just a short walk away from town, and the pebble beach at Plaka. About 15 minutes away by taxi you’ll also find the beach resort of Agios Nikolaos, which has some lively nightlife too.
Top attractions
There are some interesting places for sightseeing around Elounda, such as the submerged ancient city if Olous. The remains of the city include five large windmills which can be visited by the public. There’s also the ancient ruins of the Minoan Palace of Malia.
One of the most popular attractions in Crete is Spinalonga Island. Here, visitors come to see the old Venetian fortress and the abandoned leper colony, which was the inspiration behind Victoria Hislop’s book The Island.
Best restaurants
Ferryman Taverna is a charming place to enjoy a meal along the waterfront. Cosy and welcoming, it specialising in all the best Greek dishes, from lamb moussaka to stifado, and you can even sit out on the terrace to eat. Another option, especially if you’re planning to stay out late, is the Eden Restaurant Bar. Here you can choose from a range of international dishes, such as burgers, Thai dishes and pasta, and enjoy one of the many cocktails. They also do breakfast.

At HolidayTaxis, we recognize that every traveler is different and may have their own preferences and requirements for their airport transfers. To accommodate this, we offer a diverse range of transfer vehicles for our customers to choose from, each with its own set of benefits and advantages.
For example, if you're traveling in a large group, our minibus or shared airport shuttle transfers might be the best option for you, as they can comfortably accommodate a larger number of passengers and their luggage. On the other hand, if you're traveling with just one or two companions, a private car may be more suitable for you as they offer a more intimate and personalised experience.
