Things to do

Of all the beaches on the Turkish Riviera, Patara is by far one of the most beautiful. The huge sweeping curve of sand is so big that, even when it gets crowded, there’s still plenty of room for all. Stretching out over 11 kilometres, it’s the longest beach in Turkey and offers a peaceful respite from the busier resorts along the coast. It’s also home to the ancient ruins of Lycia, which are located just by the coast, making it an interesting place to visit for more than just sunny days on the sand.

The other main attractions are the turtles which, every year, come to the beach to nest and lay their eggs. Although you should be sure to keep well away from any turtles and their hatchlings while they are on the beach, you will still be able to see them from a distance. Patara is a natural beach, which is what makes it so attractive, however you will have to remember to bring a picnic lunch, as there are no bars, restaurants or facilities along the beach.

There are plenty of other beaches nearby that offer more facilities, popular with families and anyone looking for some beach activities. Paragliding, swimming and a whole range of other watersports can be found at Oludeniz beach, or lie back on a sun lounger at Iztuzu Beach.

Top attractions

As previously mentioned, aside from the beach itself, the main attraction in the area is the ancient ruined city of Lycia, and visitors can see the hillside theatre and partially restored main street. Another popular attraction is Saklikent Gorge. The second-largest gorge in Europe (the longest and deepest in Turkey), it’s an impressive natural attraction to visit, go for a hike in or paddle in the shallow stream which bubbles along the bottom - be sure to bring your camera!

Finally, a little further along the coast is Olu Deniz Beach. Here you’ll discover Turkey’s famous Blue Lagoon, the stunning Butterfly Valley (which can be reached with a boat trip), wildlife and the chance to see it all from above with a paragliding lesson. There are also bars and restaurants nearby, so you can make a whole day of your visit here.

Best restaurants

There are a few cafes and restaurants that can be found not too far from the beach. One cafe is located near the ruins, where you’ll find a reasonably priced choice of lunch items and snacks. Located in Gelemi village is a local restaurant called Tlos, which is ideal for hearty dishes such as stews, Turkish pizza and lighter salads. Or, try a traditional Turkish ‘pancake’ (gozleme), flatbreads made with yoghurt and filled with cheese, lamb mince and potatoes, or sweet fillings like bananas and honey.

March 31, 2023

At HolidayTaxis, we recognize that every traveler is different and may have their own preferences and requirements for their airport transfers. To accommodate this, we offer a diverse range of transfer vehicles for our customers to choose from, each with its own set of benefits and advantages.

For example, if you're traveling in a large group, our minibus or shared airport shuttle transfers might be the best option for you, as they can comfortably accommodate a larger number of passengers and their luggage. On the other hand, if you're traveling with just one or two companions, a private car may be more suitable for you as they offer a more intimate and personalised experience.
