Closer to Burgau, couples and families can try some of the excellent water sports facilities at Beach Hut Watersports, located in Praia de Luz. Or, why not take a boat excursion along the coast. Lagos zoo is just nearby, when the whole family can enjoy watching the 120 different animal species. Lagos itself is a great day trip from the resort, where there is lots to do, as well as plenty of restaurants and beaches.

A hidden treasure and must-try during your visit, Burgau Beach Bar is a family-run restaurant serving excellent food at great prices. It also offers wonderful views out over the ocean. Out of town, the Blue Wave Beach Bar is a popular choice for meals at any time of the day, and has a good cocktail menu. Restaurant Fortaleza da Luz, at the nearby resort or Praia da Luz, is another lovely restaurant that serves delicious local food and has a great atmosphere.
When to go
The weather can be very hot during the busy summer months of July and August, ideal for couples looking for sun but not the best time to visit for families with small children. Travel out of season to enjoy the lower prices and more comfortable temperatures, or pay a visit later in the year for some winter sun.
