What to do in Mastihari (Mastichari)?
This calm and peaceful former fishing village, located on the northern coast of Kos is a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful extensive white sandy beach, turquoise waters and beautiful sunsets. It does benefit from a constant breeze which helps to keep temperatures bearable and it less developed and lively at night so is suitable for families.
There are various water sports available on the beach, weather permitting, these include kite and windsurfing. The tavernas, a few metres from the beach, serve freshly caught fish and hence are some of the tastiest on the whole island.
The nearby Lido Waterpark is one of the biggest in Greece and has excellent facilities and many different water amusements including; pools, slides, whirlpools and jacuzzi plus beach tennis and volleyball areas, trampolines as well as restaurants and a mini-market.
Spend an hour wandering the Hippocrates Garden Cultural Center, which gives an interesting insight into how Hippocrates used to live and includes various labelled plants. Take a walk along the beach, and you'll find the remains of the Ágios Ioánnis basilica, dating back to the fifth century.
