Things to do
Kata Beach offers stunning soft white sandy beaches, clear blue seas and plenty of action - whether its watersports or nightlife. However, Kata Beach is noticeably more popular with families and couples as opposed to students and backpackers looking to party. The one-mile stretch of sand may come well equipped with plenty of beach bars but on the whole the area is quieter, more relaxed and child-friendly than some of the other Thai beach resorts.
There is plenty to keep you entertained if you’re looking for some action. The beach is a popular destination for surfers, especially towards the southern end, where boat and catamaran hire is available by the hour, plus there are kayaks and stand up paddleboards available to use. You could take a tour of the stunning coastline or head out to nearby Pu Island, which is just half a mile offshore.
There is, however, much more to experience in the area in addition to the beach. Holidaymakers will find a good choice of restaurants, with lots of international options available. There is also plenty of time to find some holiday souvenirs; from shopping at the local boutiques to browsing the market stalls, especially good for bargains in the evening when many more shops come to life.
Top attractions in Kata Beach
Fancy a change of scenery? Pay a visit to one of Kata’s two neighbouring beaches: Kata Yai and Kata Noi. Here you’ll find even more water sports on offer, including jet-skiing and parasailing. If snorkelling or diving interests you then make sure you head over to Boo Island, where you’ll find some beautiful coral reefs and lots of colourful fish. Alternatively, take a walk up to Three Beaches Hill, from where you can enjoy stunning sweeping views of the coastline.
