Things to see and do in Desenzano
Set on the shore of Lake Garda, Desenzano is an attractive little town that offers visitors easy access to the surrounding area. It is best known for its remains of a Roman villa, complete with mosaic floor tiling. The local Rambotti Archaeological Museum is home to some fascinating artefacts, found nearby, some of which date back to the Paleolithic era.
It’s a great location to relax, starting with a morning stroll along the promenade or breakfast in one of the little cafes. There’s a weekly market that stretches along the lakefront, where you can find souvenirs and gifts to take home to friends and family. Don’t forget to spot by the Santa Maria Maddalena Cathedral, located in Piazza Duomo, for its murals and architecture.
Of course, there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy during your stay as well. Enjoy a swim in Lake Garda, or some sunbathing on the shore, do a lap or two in the outdoor pool or head to the tennis courts for a game. It’s a relatively flat area of the lake, so why not rent a bike a discover a little more of the area.

The main attraction is, of course, Lake Garda itself. While this section of the lake is not as spectacular as the more mountainous part further round, visitors can still appreciate the views from afar. It’s also only a short taxi ride to see more of the lakeside villages. It’s a great road trip, with scenic views the whole way.
It’s also not far from another of Italy’s best known natural attractions: the The Dolomite Mountains. A haven for cyclist, mountain bikers and hikers, it’s home alpine villages, rolling meadows, valleys and high mountain peaks. In short, one of the top natural spots in the country.

For lunch, try a traditional Italian pizza (better than any you’ve had at home) at Alessi Restaurant. Choose a table in the courtyard, where you can enjoy the sun while you eat. For the evening, book a table at Esplanade. This very highly rated restaurants specialises in refined, gourmet food and has an excellent tasting menu. It also comes complete with views of the lake.
