Getting to South Africa

If you're travelling from the United Kingdom there are direct flights from London Gatwick (LGW) or London Heathrow (LHR) to Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) or Cape Town International Airport (CPT). From Australia, Qantas Airlines offers direct flights from Sydney to Johannesburg. South African Airways provides direct flights from Perth. The flight takes 11 hours and 5 minutes.

Entry requirements

• A passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry to South Africa
• A return or onward flight ticket
• Citizens from most countries don’t need a visa and will get a 90 days entry permit.
• If you have a South African passport, you must enter and exit South Africa with it, even if you hold a passport from a different country.
• Children (under 18 years of age) must have a certified copy of their birth certificate as well as a valid passport. If the child is travelling with only one or no parents, the child must have an affidavit from the missing parent, that gives their consent for the child to travel.
